Bad Apple Racing Wins Big at the Baja 1000
La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, November 20, 2010 — Steve Appleton proved that his Class 1 victory at the Baja 500 in June was no fluke by following it up with a victory in the 2010 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Steve and his brother Chris covered the 1061 mile course in a time of 20 hours 32 minutes and 18 seconds, for a 51.69 mph average speed. Steve's car is a Champion Series Jimco prepped in house by Jimco Racing and uses an Albins Sequential 5-speed transaxle serviced by Weddle Industries.
Also following up their amazing performance in the Baja 500, and raising the bar, was the Wide Open Motorsports Class 1 entry of Nick Johnson. A Wide Open Baja Challenge car finished 4th in Class 1 at the Baja 500, this time around they improved and grabbed the final spot on the podium. Usually these impressive little cars run in their own class in the Baja 1000, but for this race, despite the odds stacked against them, Nick and crew decided to enter Class 1. The team had a clean run and finished 3rd, with a time of 22 hours 21 minutes and 17 seconds. Wide Open's Baja Challenge cars run the Weddle HV-1 transaxle, the first transaxle designed completely in house by Weddle Industries. Wide Open was also supporting 6 Baja Challenge entries, all of which finished the 1061 grueling miles of this year's Baja 1000.
Weddle Industries is honored to be trusted by so many top-notch teams and organizations in this sport, and would like to congratulate all the racers that finished the 2010 Baja 1000. Congratulations also go out to SCORE-International for putting on another successful event.
